Perry was born in Chicago to two actors Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. The role of Jackie Harris was played by her mom in both of the two episodes she appeared on Roseanne. She was not allowed to perform in front of her family until adulthood, as they feared the stress it would create. Perry confessed that she wasn't comfortable acting in high school. She began doing it to connect with new people during her time at Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Perry went on to New York, where she was offered small roles in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. The feeling of homesickness caused Perry her back home California, where theater jobs were readily available. Perry performed with her mom in The Other Place at Broadway at the end of 2013. In 2015, she starred with Kevin McKidd alongside her mother in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prizewinning drama Anna Christie. The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble is located in West Los Angeles. Perry was featured nine times on the ABC thriller The Family, in 2016. Her father played her on The ABC show Scandal. In the same year, she was cast as a young model of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again as a teen character of her mom's character. The character was assigned by audition regardless of the fact that she has a family tie to the role.
